Basilica di San Simplicio

San Simplicio is the oldest and finest church in Olbia, built in pale granite between the late 11th and 12th centuries on the site of an older cemetery. Its plain façade, three naves and timber roof are pure Pisan Romanesque, and inside you can see fragments of medieval frescoes and Roman milestones reused as building material. The basilica is dedicated to Olbia's patron saint and is the focus of the town's main festival in mid-May. It sits at the western edge of the old town, about 10 minutes' walk beyond Corso Umberto, so combine it with a stroll down the main street.
