Pointe-à-Pitre is an easy walk-off port. Ships berth at one of the two cruise terminals - Cruise Terminal 1 or Cruise Terminal 2 - at Guadeloupe Port Caraïbes on the western waterfront, so the spice market, Place de la Victoire, the cathedral and the excellent Mémorial ACTe museum of slavery are all a flat 10-15 minute walk. Guadeloupe is part of France, so the euro is used and cards work almost everywhere. For the island's real draws you need transport: Le Gosier's beaches are about 20 minutes by taxi, the white-sand beaches at Sainte-Anne roughly 40 minutes, and the La Soufrière volcano and rainforest on Basse-Terre a good hour each way - better as a hire car or organised trip than a short taxi hop. Taxis wait at the terminals but are not cheap and are usually cash, and there is no Uber. If your call is short, stay in town on foot; for a beach or nature day, arrange a car or driver in advance.

This is a self-drive day. Hire cars are at the airport (10 min by taxi) and some agencies deliver to the port; a small car is about €60–80/day, far cheaper than a taxi island tour (~€200 half-day). Drive the N4/D6 coastal roads east: Le Gosier for the Fort Fleur d'Épée viewpoint, Sainte-Anne for the beach, then the D118 out to Pointe des Châteaux. Parking is free at all three; fuel for the ~90 km round trip is roughly €10.

Everything here is on foot from the Saint-John Perse terminal — no transport needed. Place de la Victoire and the spice market are a 5-minute walk; the cathedral and Musée Saint-John Perse (€3) are a couple of blocks on; the Mémorial ACTe is a flat 10-15 minute waterfront walk south and costs about €15. The only real cost is the two entry fees.
