The Belmont Walkway is the reason Bequia works so well as an independent port day. It starts at the south end of the Port Elizabeth waterfront and runs along the shore of Admiralty Bay, past dive shops, guesthouses and bars built out over the water on stilts, with the anchored yachts a few metres away on your right. For most of its length it is flat and paved and takes about twenty minutes end to end. The final stretch is the catch: the path narrows, turns to rock and climbs a short flight of steps before dropping onto Princess Margaret Beach, which is awkward in flip-flops and impossible with a pushchair.
