Built by Henry VIII in the 1540s to guard Portland Harbour, this compact coastal fort is one of the best-preserved of its kind. Inside you can explore the gun rooms, great hall and captain's house, and the gardens look out over the water. It is the easiest real sight to reach on foot from the ship.
