Morning, when the lagoon is calmest
Motu Ofetaro sits on the edge of the Teavapiti pass just off Uturoa. The water is under 1.5 m deep across the coral garden, so it is easy for beginners: expect clownfish, butterflyfish, giant clams and the odd stingray. There is no café or shop on the motu, so bring water, snacks and shade.
Getting there from the port
Walk to Uturoa harbour and take the motu shuttle boat (≈ 6 min crossing). Kayakers can paddle about 1 km from the shore near the Sup'Tepua supermarket, 2 km south of town.
