Church of St. Euphemia

St Euphemia's church crowns the highest point of the old town, its 60-metre bell tower modelled on the campanile of St Mark's in Venice and topped by a copper statue of the saint that turns with the wind. Inside lies the marble sarcophagus of St Euphemia, Rovinj's patron, said to have washed ashore here in the 9th century. The climb up through Grisia and the steep lanes is part of the experience, and the reward is the best panorama in Rovinj: red roofs tumbling to the sea, the harbour, and the islands offshore. The bell tower can be climbed for a small fee via a steep wooden staircase; the view is worth it on a clear day.
