Al Baleed is the UNESCO-listed archaeological park on the medieval frankincense port of Zafar, the trading hub from which Dhofari frankincense reached India and China between the 8th and 16th centuries. 64 hectares of mosque, palace and merchant-quarter ruins on a coastal lagoon — flat enough that electric carts loop the site. Allow 90-120 min including the museum.
Getting there from the port
Cruise-line coach or pre-booked driver; on Sultan Qaboos Road east of the city centre.
