Sumhuram was the 3rd-century BC fortified port from which the Hadhramawt frankincense was shipped to Egypt and Rome — a UNESCO Land of Frankincense site on a sand bluff over the Khor Rori lagoon. Stone foundations of the city walls, gates, granaries and a royal palace remain. Dramatic coastal setting; lagoon often hosts pink flamingos.
