The compact Colonial Zone — home to the first cathedral, fortress, street and palace in the Americas — is walkable from the Don Diego cruise terminal in about 12 minutes along the waterfront and easy to explore on foot in half a day. Some ships instead use the Sans Souci terminal on the east bank, which needs a short taxi or Uber to reach the old town. Beyond the Colonial Zone, the Los Tres Ojos cave-lagoons and the Faro a Colón monument are a short drive east, and Boca Chica's calm beach is about 45 minutes away. Taxis and Uber are plentiful; agree fares before you ride and carry some pesos for small vendors.

This is the easiest DIY in the Caribbean: from the Don Diego terminal the Colonial Zone is a flat 10-15 minute walk, no transport needed. The streets and plazas are free; only the interiors cost a little (Catedral entry/donation, Fortaleza Ozama ~RD$70, Alcazar de Colon ~RD$100+). Follow Calle Las Damas, the oldest paved street in the Americas, between the sights. From Sans Souci take a short taxi or Uber instead.

Take a taxi or Uber east from the terminal; both sights are within 15-20 minutes. Los Tres Ojos entry is ~RD$200 and includes the little raft crossing; Faro a Colon is ~RD$100.
