The glass-bottom boat run out to Buccoo Reef has been the standard Tobago excursion for sixty years. Boats leave from Store Bay, Pigeon Point and Buccoo itself, motor out over the coral gardens with the reef visible through the floor panels, stop so you can snorkel, then anchor on the Nylon Pool sandbar for a swim before heading back. The whole thing takes about two hours. The reef is a protected marine park and has taken damage over the decades, so the coral is patchier than the brochures suggest, but the fish life is still good and it remains an easy, cheap and genuinely fun family outing.
