Late morning, when the fishing boats are back in
Castara is a fishing village on the leeward coast where the boats still work and the seine nets are hauled onto the beach by hand, with anyone standing nearby expected to lend a hand on the rope. There are two bays, a handful of guesthouses and beach bars, and a waterfall walk behind the village. It is not a resort and does not pretend to be, which is why it turns up on so many island tours as the lunch stop. The drive is about 50 minutes over the ridge from Scarborough on a road that is worth the trip by itself.
Getting there from the port
Taxi over the ridge to the leeward coast road, about 50 minutes each way
