Morning, at low tide when the sandbar is shallowest
The Nylon Pool is a shallow sandbar in the middle of the sea about a kilometre offshore, inside the shelter of Buccoo Reef, where the water is clear, warm and barely waist deep. Every reef boat stops here and the appeal is simple: you step off the boat into open ocean and find yourself standing on white sand with land nowhere near. Princess Margaret is said to have named it after the clarity of the water. Local lore claims a dip takes ten years off you, which the boat crews will tell you with a straight face while pouring rum punch.
