Early morning, and Friday or Saturday for the full crowd
Scarborough's public market is the working heart of the town: a covered hall and a spill of stalls selling ground provision, mangoes, bananas, dasheen, nutmeg, hot pepper sauce and the local cocoa, with craft and clothing tables at the edges. Friday and Saturday mornings are when it fills up and the noise level rises. It is eight minutes on foot from the terminal along the waterfront and it is the cheapest and most interesting shopping on the island, well ahead of the duty-free counters back at the pier. Bring TT dollars, because nothing here takes a card.
