Sunpu Castle in central Shizuoka was the retirement seat of Tokugawa Ieyasu, who effectively ran the country from here. The keep is gone, but the moats, stone walls and the reconstructed Tatsumi turret and East Gate sit in a pleasant park, glorious under spring cherry blossom.
