Skjolden has no rental-car desks and no taxi rank, so the DIY route requires pre-booking a hire car from Hertz or Avis at Sogndal Airport (~50 km away) with delivery to Skjolden Marina — typically €180–€220 total with delivery fee. Once collected at the marina (right next to the pier), drive 30 km up Fv55 to the Sognefjellshytta summit lodge for the panoramic stop, then return via Mefjellet viewpoint and the Turtagrø photo stop. The road is closed from mid-November to mid-April for snow — 2026 reopening was 2 April per Statens Vegvesen — and can shut on short notice in bad weather even in June.

Cycle the signposted Yellow Route along the Romantic Road (Fv5637) on the east shore of Lustrafjord — 30 km each way of mostly flat asphalt with three short unlit tunnels (lights included in rental). Skip the Solvorn–Ornes ferry entirely; the east-side road delivers you directly to Ornes. Church entry is NOK 150 / €13 walk-up; tours run in English on the hour.
