Tobermory Cruise Port
Tobermory, United Kingdom · Northern Europe
Cruise ships anchor offshore in Tobermory — tenders ferry passengers to the port.
Plan my port daysTender port: ships anchor in Tobermory Bay and tender to the harbour pontoons at the south end of Main Street, a few minutes' walk from the centre. The distillery, museum, cafés and harbour walks are all on foot. Glengorm, Calgary Bay and Duart Castle need a pre-booked taxi, the infrequent local bus or a tour.

Port summary
Tobermory was laid out in 1788 by the British Fisheries Society as a herring port, and its curved Main Street of red, yellow and blue houses is one of the most photographed waterfronts in Scotland. Children may know it as Balamory from the BBC TV series. The bay is sheltered by Calve Island, and legend says a Spanish Armada galleon full of gold still lies on the sea bed. Cruise ships anchor in the bay and run tenders to the pontoons of the Tobermory Harbour Association at the southern end of Main Street, next to the distillery and Ledaig car park. Only very small ships, such as Hebridean Princess, come alongside the ferry pier. On cruise days local volunteers usually hand out maps at the landing. You do not need a shuttle: the whole waterfront is a flat 10-minute stroll. The town fills a relaxed half day. Walk Main Street to the clock tower, visit the free Mull Museum, take a tour at Tobermory Distillery, eat fresh seafood at Café Fish or from the fish and chip van, and climb to An Tobar arts centre for the view. For a walk, follow the coastal path north to Rubha nan Gall lighthouse or south through the woods of Aros Park to waterfalls and a lochan. A one-hour boat trip around the bay leaves from the same pontoons. Further afield, public transport is thin, so book ahead. Glengorm Castle's coffee shop and walks are 15 minutes by taxi, the white sand of Calgary Bay is 35–40 minutes by taxi or the weekday 494 bus, and Duart Castle is about an hour away via Craignure. Iona and Staffa are too far for most port days. Bring waterproofs in every month, and expect tenders to stop in strong winds.
