Zuiryuji is one of the finest Zen temples on the Sea of Japan coast, built in the 17th century to honour the Maeda lord Toshinaga and now a designated National Treasure. Its symmetrical layout - the great gate, Buddha hall and lecture hall linked by roofed corridors - is a rare complete survival of Edo-period Zen architecture.
