None is in a city centre, so you will use a cruise shuttle, a taxi, the local Manyosen or Portram trams, or JR trains. The headline day trips are big: Kanazawa and its Kenrokuen garden are about an hour by train via the Hokuriku Shinkansen; the UNESCO gassho-zukuri villages of Gokayama are roughly 60-75 minutes by road; Takaoka's Great Buddha and the National-Treasure Zuiryuji temple, the scenic Amaharashi coast and the Shinminato fish market are all closer. Toyama city itself has a moated castle, the Kengo Kuma glass museum and the pretty Kansui canal park.

The main deep-water cruise berth of Fushiki-Toyama Port, in the Shinminato / Kaiwo district of Imizu beside Kaiwomaru Park, about 10 minutes' walk from Kaiwomaru Station on the Manyosen tram. Take the cruise shuttle or the Manyosen tram to Shin-Takaoka (or Toyama) Station, then the Hokuriku Shinkansen to Kanazawa - about 13-20 minutes and roughly ¥2,400, with IC cards or walk-up tickets fine outside peak trains. From Kanazawa Station the Kenrokuen Shuttle bus (¥200 flat) loops to Kenrokuen and Kanazawa Castle (garden ~¥320), then it is a walk to Higashi Chaya and the Omicho market for lunch. Reserve a shinkansen seat on busy days; otherwise just tap in.

Take the cruise shuttle or a taxi to Shin-Takaoka Station, then either the Kaetsuno World Heritage Bus to Ainokura-guchi (about 75-90 minutes, book ahead) or a hire car up the Tokai-Hokuriku Expressway (about 65-70 minutes). The village is free to wander; there is a small parking/preservation fee and a folk museum. Wear real shoes for the steep lanes, and fix your return bus or driver time before you go - the timetable is thin.
