Any time; a thoughtful indoor stop
Tsuruga was the Japanese landfall for Polish orphans in the 1920s and for Jewish refugees who fled Europe in 1940 on the 'visas for life' issued by diplomat Chiune Sugihara. This thoughtful museum by the old port tells their stories through documents, photographs and personal accounts - a moving, humane counterpoint to the town's lighter sights.
