Ushuaia is one of the easiest cruise ports in South America for independent exploration. The main pier is right next to downtown, so most passengers walk off the ship and into the city within minutes. San Martín Avenue, the main shopping and dining street, is one block from the dock. For excursions further afield — Tierra del Fuego National Park, Beagle Channel cruises, glacier hikes — pre-booking is strongly recommended as vehicles and tour slots are limited during peak cruise season (November–March). Weather is unpredictable year-round; dress in layers and carry a waterproof jacket even on sunny days.

Taxi from the cruise pier to the Tren del Fin del Mundo station costs roughly €10–15 (negotiate before boarding, pay in pesos). The train ride is ~40 min one-way into the park. Park entry is ~€25 per person for foreign visitors, paid in cash (ARS) at the gate. Train tourist-class ticket is ~€50 return. After the train delivers you into the park, walk or take a remise between Ensenada Bay, Lapataia Bay, and the post office — distances are short but not all connected by footpaths, so a pre-arranged taxi pickup at the park exit is wise.
