Morning to early afternoon for swimming
Cleopatra Beach is the golden crescent on the western side of the castle headland, a clean, gently shelving blue-flag beach named for the story that Mark Antony gave the bay to Cleopatra and shipped in its fine sand. Backed by a palm-lined promenade of cafes, with sunbeds and watersports for hire, it is an easy walk or short taxi from the pier and the best spot in town for a swim. Bring a towel and reef shoes; the water is warm from late spring into autumn.
Getting there from the port
A 15-20 minute walk around the headland from the harbour, or a short taxi.
