Morning boats; book a grotto time slot and watch the sea forecast
Neptune's Grotto (Grotta di Nettuno) is a sea-level cave at the foot of the Capo Caccia cliffs, discovered by local fishermen and open to visitors since the 19th century. A guided walk of about 30 minutes leads past stalactite columns and along a salt-water lake inside the mountain. From the cruise tender landing the easiest way there is by tourist boat: the trip along the cliffs takes about 45 minutes each way and is a highlight in itself. The boat fare does not include the grotto ticket (€18), and every visitor needs a booked time slot, so reserve online before your port day. In rough seas, especially with a mistral wind, the boats do not sail and the sea entrance can close; the land route down the 654-step Escala del Cabirol is the fallback.
