Positano's vertical cascade of pastel-coloured houses is one of Italy's most photographed villages. From the bus stop or ferry dock at the top/bottom, steep lanes wind past boutiques, ceramic shops, and small trattorias. The walk down to Spiaggia Grande (the main beach) takes about 20 minutes and passes the majolica-domed Church of Santa Maria Assunta. Coming back up is the workout — take your time and stop for lemon granita along the way.
