Villa Rufolo's terraced gardens are Ravello's centrepiece — lush Mediterranean plantings on multiple levels ending in a dramatic viewpoint over the coastline hundreds of metres below. Richard Wagner visited in 1880 and declared it his garden of Klingsor from Parsifal. The Ravello Festival holds open-air concerts on a purpose-built stage overlooking the sea each summer. The villa itself dates to the 13th century and mixes Moorish and Norman architectural elements.
