Cruise ships dock at the Busan Port International Passenger Terminal at Busan North Port, a short shuttle or taxi from Busan Station on metro line 1. Busan is one of Asia's easiest cruise cities to do yourself: the metro is clean, cheap and signed in English, taxis are plentiful and inexpensive, and cards work almost everywhere. Close by are the buzzing Nampodong and BIFF Square, the huge Jagalchi fish market and the hillside maze of the Gamcheon Culture Village. Further out but easily reached are the long beach at Haeundae, the neon Gwangan Bridge over Gwangalli, the dramatic seaside temple of Haedong Yonggungsa, the mountain temple of Beomeosa and the sea-cliffs of Taejongdae on Yeongdo island. A T-money or Cashbee transit card, tapped on the metro and buses, makes independent touring effortless.

The main cruise berth at Busan North Port (Dong-gu), handling large cruise ships and Japan ferries, a short shuttle or taxi from Busan Station and metro line 1. Some larger or repositioning calls use the Yeongdo (Operation) cruise terminal further south.

Busan's dedicated cruise berth, on Yeongdo island on the ocean side of the Busan Harbour Bridge, south of the city centre (17 Haeyang-ro, Yeongdo-gu). Opened in 2007, the International Cruise Pier (MBY-01) is 360 m long and 11 m deep and the reconfigured terminal can handle two large ships (up to ~200,000 GT each) at once, so mega-ships too big for the North Port International Passenger Terminal — or calls when North Port is full — berth here. Not walkable to the centre: cruise lines normally lay on shuttle buses, and taxis wait at the terminal.

One of Asia's easiest DIY calls. Take the cruise shuttle or a short taxi to Busan Station, then metro line 1. For Gamcheon, ride to Toseong Station and take a village bus (2-1/2/2-2) or a ₩8,000 taxi up the hill; the village is free to wander. Back on the metro, Nampo Station puts you in Nampodong for BIFF Square street food, the Gukje Market and the escalator up to Busan Tower (₩12,000). A T-money card and card payment cover everything.

Both temples are free and reachable independently, but they sit at opposite corners of the city, so this is a committing full day. Beomeosa is direct: metro line 1 to Beomeosa Station, then bus 90 or a taxi up the mountain. Haedong Yonggungsa on the north-east coast is metro to Haeundae then bus 181, or a taxi; a cross-city taxi links the two in about 40 minutes. If time is tight, do just one - Haedong Yonggungsa is the more spectacular. Come early, as both get busy.
