Gamcheon Culture Village tumbles down a steep hillside in a mosaic of pastel-painted houses, its lanes threaded with murals, sculptures, cafes and tiny galleries. Once a poor refugee settlement built during and after the Korean War, it was reinvented from 2009 by artists and residents into one of Korea's most photographed places, sometimes called the 'Machu Picchu' or 'Santorini' of Busan. Pick up a map at the entrance, follow the art trail between the viewpoints, and allow time and legs for the many stairs.
