Chania's old town is a maze of Venetian and Ottoman lanes that reward aimless wandering. The Topanas quarter west of the harbour hides restored mansions, the old Jewish quarter and craft workshops, while Splantzia to the east is quieter, with shady squares and old churches. Most lanes are cobbled and uneven, so wear comfortable shoes.
