Souda is a docked port about 7 km east of the old town. On cruise days a signposted shuttle runs from the quay to the edge of the old town near the market for about €5-6 return, cash; the public KTEL/city bus does the same for around €1.70 each way but leaves from a stop outside the port gate. Once dropped near the market everything - harbour, lighthouse, lanes, market, Firkas - is a flat walk within 10-15 minutes, no further transport needed.

Elafonisi is about 75 km of winding road southwest of Chania - a genuine full-day commitment. The DIY route is a taxi from Souda to Chania's KTEL bus station (about 15 min, ~€18 a car), then the single direct KTEL Chania–Elafonisi summer bus (about 1h45 each way, ~€11 each way). The bus runs roughly once each way per day (out mid-morning, back late afternoon), so it only works if your ship is in port from early morning to early evening; sunbeds and a canteen are on the beach.
