Huacachina is a small green lagoon fringed by palms and huarango trees, with a few hotels and cafés around it and dunes rising more than 100 metres on every side. Walk around the lagoon, hire a pedal boat, or climb a little way up the nearest dune for the classic view. It gets very hot at midday, so bring water, sunscreen and a hat.
