🕐 Best time to visit
Late morning to early afternoon, when the lagoon glows turquoise
Avea Bay, on the south-west side of Huahine Iti, has what many visitors call the best beach in the Society Islands: a long curve of soft white sand, coconut palms and a shallow, glassy lagoon with views to the reef. The beach is public; park along the road near Parea and walk in. There is little shade in places and few facilities, so bring water, a hat and reef-safe sunscreen. The drive from the Maroe pier takes about 20 minutes, so allow for that on your way back to the last tender.
Getting there from the port
Cross the Maroe bridge and follow the road south round Huahine Iti to Parea and Avea Bay
