Morning, combined with Praia Preta
The Lazareto was built at the end of the 19th century as a quarantine station for ships' passengers arriving in Brazil, and was later used as a prison before being largely demolished. Its stone walls and arches are now overgrown by the forest just behind Praia Preta. It's a short, easy walk from the village and combines well with the aqueduct and the beach.
Getting there from the port
Walk west from the village on the coastal trail (about 20–25 minutes).
