The Asklepion, about 4 km southwest of town, is Kos's headline ancient site: a terraced sanctuary of healing dedicated to Asclepius where a medical school linked to Hippocrates once operated. Three levels of temples, altars and colonnades climb the hillside with sweeping views over the town and the Turkish coast. Reach it by bike, bus, the seasonal tourist train or a short taxi.
