The Castle of Nerantzia, built by the Knights of St John from the 14th century, guards the entrance to Kos harbour and is linked to the town by a bridge over Finikon Avenue. Its double ring of walls, bastions and reused ancient marble make an easy, atmospheric walk right beside the ship. Check current opening, as parts have been restored after earthquake damage.
