Ships berth alongside on the east bank of the Río Dulce, right at the terminal, so there is no tendering. The open-air Sugar Breeze terminal has a pool with a swim-up bar, a craft market, an ATM and the taxi rank. La Romana town centre (Parque Duarte and Santa Rosa de Lima church) is 15–20 minutes on foot over the river bridge, but it is a working sugar town rather than a sightseeing centre. Altos de Chavón, 20 minutes away inside the Casa de Campo resort, has only admitted resort guests and organised tours since early 2026, so book a ship or licensed tour if you want to see it. On your own, take a taxi to the public beaches at Bayahibe or Dominicus (30–35 minutes) or to the Cueva de las Maravillas (25 minutes), or join a boat trip to Saona or Catalina Island. Island trips and anything past Bayahibe run long, so allow a generous buffer.

The dedicated cruise berth on the east bank of the Río Dulce, right beside the Sugar Breeze terminal. Takes ships up to about 350 m; the town centre is about 1.3 km away across the river bridge. A mainly cargo quay on the west bank is used occasionally when two ships call.
