Altos de Chavón Village

Altos de Chavón looks centuries old, but it was built in the late 1970s by Italian set designer Roberto Copa for the Casa de Campo resort. Hand-cut coral stone, wrought-iron lanterns and cobbled lanes create a convincing 16th-century Mediterranean village on a cliff above the Chavón River. The church of St Stanislaus sits on the main square, the Regional Archaeology Museum holds a strong Taíno collection, and the 5,000-seat Greek-style amphitheatre still hosts big-name concerts. Galleries, cigar shops and the workshops of the Chavón design school line the lanes. It is on almost every ship's tour list, so arrive early. Since early 2026 Casa de Campo has only let in resort guests and organised tours, so cruise passengers need a ship or licensed tour to get in.
