Omodos is the best-known of the Cypriot wine villages, a cluster of stone houses and cobbled lanes in the Troodos foothills around the monastery of Timios Stavros (the Holy Cross). Its central square is lined with tavernas, craft shops and small wineries pouring local reds, whites and the sweet Commandaria, and the cool mountain air is a relief from the coast. It is about 40 km from the port on winding roads, so it is a committing choice on a cruise day - best with a hire car, private driver or an organised wine tour.
Getting there from the port
