Most ships berth along the Moll de Ponent at the inner end of Mahón's long natural harbour, so you can walk straight off. Follow the waterfront east past the Xoriguer gin distillery for about 10 minutes, then climb the Costa de ses Voltes steps or take the public lift to Plaça d'Espanya and the fish market: Santa Maria church, the Claustre del Carme market and the old-town lanes are all within a few minutes of the top. The harbourfront restaurants on the Moll de Llevant and the harbour catamarans are at the bottom of the same steps. Buses from the station at Plaça de s'Esplanada reach Es Castell and Binibeca in 15–25 minutes and Ciutadella in about an hour. The occasional ship sent to the Cos Nou quay on the north shore needs a shuttle or taxi around the harbour.
