First thing after the tender lands, before the midday heat
Mayreau has a single one-lane concrete road and it runs the length of the island, from the jetty at Saline Bay up over Station Hill and down to Salt Whistle Bay. Walking it end to end is the classic Mayreau cruise day. The climb out of Saline Bay is short but genuinely steep with almost no shade, so it is hard work in the middle of the day. At the top you pass the village houses, the bars and the church before the road drops through scrub to the north beach. Carry water; there is nowhere to buy any.
