The theatre of Epidaurus, built in the 4th century BC, seats around 13,000 people and is the best-preserved theatre of ancient Greece. Its acoustics are legendary: stand in the centre of the orchestra and a whisper or a dropped coin carries to the top rows. The theatre belonged to the Sanctuary of Asklepios, the god of medicine, one of the most famous healing centres of the ancient world. Below it lie the remains of the temple, the round Tholos, guest houses and a stadium, plus a small museum. Allow about two hours. The site is spread out and sunny, so go early, wear good shoes and bring water.
