Po Nagar Cham Towers

The Po Nagar towers stand on a small hill at the mouth of the Cai River, where the Cham kingdom of Kauthara built a sanctuary to the goddess Yan Po Nagar, "mother of the kingdom". The brick towers you see today date from the 8th to the 13th centuries; four of the original structures survive, the tallest about 23 metres high. The main tower still holds a ten-armed statue of the goddess, and Vietnamese and Cham worshippers bring incense and offerings every day, so dress modestly (shoulders and knees covered) and take off your shoes inside. Below the towers is a hall of stone pillars that once supported a roof, and a small exhibition on Cham history. Allow about an hour. Traditional Cham dance shows are sometimes held on the terrace, and the Xom Bong bridge just below gives the classic view of the Cai River's blue fishing boats.
