Opened in 2010, the Teatro del Lago is South America's most unexpected concert hall: a copper-and-wood building on stilts over the water in a village of a few thousand people. Its main hall is lined with Chilean timber and has world-class acoustics, and it hosts an international music festival in January and February. Guided tours of about an hour take you backstage and into the halls when there's no rehearsal. Schedules change with the programme, so book by email or check at the box office. The café terrace has one of the best views of Osorno Volcano on the lake.
Getting there from the port
Taxi or private driver via Ruta 5 (about 50 minutes), or minibus to Frutillar Alto and a colectivo down to the lake.
