Taino Bay opened in 2021 in Puerto Plata's old commercial harbour and, unlike gated Amber Cove 12 km west, sits in the city itself. From the ship it is about 1.5 km on foot to Parque Central, with Umbrella Street, the Paseo de Doña Blanca, the cathedral and the Amber Museum all within a few blocks. Fort San Felipe and the Malecón are a similar walk along the waterfront, so a half-day DIY loop is easy. Further afield, fixed-rate taxis from the port stand reach Cofresí and Ocean World (15 minutes), Playa Dorada (20 minutes) and the 27 Charcos waterfalls or Sosúa (35–45 minutes). The Isabel de Torres cable car is closed for a full rebuild (construction from late September 2026, roughly 18–20 months), so the summit is only reachable by road on 4x4 tours. If you want to stay put, the terminal village has a free pool and lazy river.

How to move around Puerto Plata once you're there
Cheap shared minibuses east to Sosúa and Cabarete. Crowded, cash only and slow, so leave a big return buffer.

Fast and cheap, but helmets are rare and traffic is chaotic. Not recommended for cruise passengers.
