Twelve kilometres south of Puntarenas at Caldera, Playa Doña Ana is the cleanest swimming beach within reach of the cruise port — Pacific-facing rather than Gulf-facing, with clearer water, lifeguards on duty, picnic tables and a small entrance fee. Better for actual swimming than the Puntarenas town beach.
