Late morning; shops and yokai cafes are liveliest midday

Mizuki Shigeru Road runs 800 metres from Sakaiminato Station and is lined with more than 170 bronze statues of the yokai - Japan's folkloric spirits and monsters - drawn by local manga master Mizuki Shigeru, creator of GeGeGe no Kitaro. Shops, cafes and even the postboxes take up the theme, painted yokai footprints lead you along, and it is pure, easy fun for families straight off the ship.
