Pablo Neruda bought a small stone cabin at Isla Negra in 1939 and spent decades extending it into a house shaped like a ship, facing the Pacific. It's crammed with the things he collected: ships' figureheads, coloured glass bottles, shells, masks, maps and insects, each room with its own theme. Neruda and his wife Matilde Urrutia are buried in the garden overlooking the sea. Visits are self-guided with an audio guide; it's open Tuesday–Sunday 10:00–18:00, and busy with groups on cruise days, so arrive early.
Getting there from the port
Taxi or Uber up the coast road, about 35 minutes, or a coastal bus from the Barrancas terminal (40–50 minutes).
