San Antonio, on the coast 110 km west of Santiago, is Chile's busiest container port and the country's main cruise homeport: many South America and Cape Horn sailings start or end here. Ships berth alongside at the DP World multipurpose terminal, and because walking through the cargo area isn't allowed, a port bus shuttles everyone between the gangway and the Terminal de Pasajeros on Avenida Angamos, next to the Barrancas bus station. From the terminal it's about 10 minutes' walk north to Paseo Bellamar, the town's seafront promenade, with the Muelle Turístico, sea lions lounging on the rocks and the fish terminal whose upstairs stalls serve fried fish, machas and seafood stews. Little boats run short trips round the bay from the pier, and Mall Arauco sits at the end of the promenade. San Antonio is a working town rather than a pretty one, so most visitors head out. Cartagena, with the house and hilltop tomb of the poet Vicente Huidobro, is 10 minutes north, and Pablo Neruda's house-museum at Isla Negra is about 35 minutes up the coast by taxi or local bus (closed on Mondays). The Parque Humedal Río Maipo, a free coastal wetland full of birds, is 10 minutes south. Further afield, Pomaire's pottery street is 50 minutes inland, the Casablanca Valley wineries about an hour north, Valparaíso and Viña del Mar roughly 80–90 minutes, and Santiago 1 hour 40 minutes or more, so book a driver or a tour and leave generous time for traffic on the way back. Chile uses the peso (CLP); cards and contactless work in shops, restaurants and Uber, but carry cash for buses, boat trips, market stalls and small cafés.

From the cruise terminal to the city centre
Walking through the cargo terminal isn't allowed, so a free, compulsory port bus runs continuously between the ship and the passenger terminal.
📍 Board the port bus at the foot of the gangway; it drops you at the passenger terminal on Avenida Angamos.
Paseo Bellamar, the sea lions, the fish terminal and Mall Arauco are all within 10–15 minutes on foot along flat pavements.
📍 Leave the terminal and follow Avenida Angamos north towards the sea to reach Paseo Bellamar.
Fares aren't metered for longer trips: agree the price first. Around $25,000–35,000 CLP return to Isla Negra with waiting time; much more for Valparaíso or Santiago.

Uber works in San Antonio and along the coast and is paid by card in the app, but return rides from Isla Negra or the wineries can take a while to find a driver.

Pullman Costa runs to Santiago every 15–20 minutes (about 1 h 40 min, around $8,000 CLP); coastal buses run north to Cartagena and Isla Negra in 25–40 minutes for about $2,000 CLP.
