Any time; the shade makes it the coolest spot in Scarborough
The botanical gardens run up the slope on the town side of Milford Road, seventeen acres of lawn, flowering trees and palms laid out in the nineteenth century as an experimental garden. There is no gate, no fee and no real signage, which makes it more of a shaded park than a formal collection, but it is easily the coolest place in Scarborough on a hot afternoon and the birdlife is good in the early morning. It sits directly on the walking route between the cruise terminal and the foot of the climb to Fort King George, so it costs nothing to build into the day.
