The French traded furs on the bay of Sept-Îles from the 1600s, and the post passed through many hands before the Hudson's Bay Company ran it in the 1800s. The Vieux-Poste is a reconstruction of that post, built from 18th-century plans after archaeological digs in the 1960s turned up the original foundations. The log buildings, chapel and Innu camp sit on a quiet stretch of shore in Uashat, and the site tells the story from both sides: Innu families who came down the rivers each summer to trade, and the European clerks who waited for them. It is run by the Musée de la Côte-Nord, and a combined ticket covers both. Opening is seasonal (mainly summer), so check before you go if your ship calls in September or October.
