Seoraksan Cable Car & Gwongeumseong

The Seoraksan cable car climbs from the Sogongwon area near the park entrance to a rocky peak just below the ruins of Gwongeumseong, a small mountain fortress. The ride takes about five minutes. From the upper station a short but steep, rocky path leads to the summit, with views over the granite pinnacles of Outer Seorak and down to the sea at Sokcho. Tickets are sold only on the day at the ground-floor counter, and each ticket carries a boarding time. In October, when the autumn colours peak, the next free slot can be two or three hours away by mid-morning, so head here first. The cable car may stop in high wind. Wear shoes with good grip for the last climb to the top.
