🕐 Best time to visit
Late morning to midday when light fills the western opening.
The Caves of Hercules are a chain of sea caves at the foot of cliffs 5 km south of Cap Spartel, half-natural and half-quarried by the Phoenicians and Carthaginians for millstones. The famous photo is the western opening that frames the Atlantic in the rough silhouette of an upside-down map of Africa. Ten-minute paved walk inside; ten-minute photo stop on every Cap Spartel tour.
Getting there from the port
Combine with Cap Spartel — most tours include both; grand taxi from Tanger Ville or excursion bus.
